I like a saw to feel comfortable to handle and be well balanced to the power. Everybody has their own personal preferences for me its "stihl".
|
1. Stihl ms 441 70cc high power saw running a 25” stock bar and chain. This saw is used for dealing with the bulk timber and first stages of my carvings, I like to use this saw as far into any carving as physically possible. I love this saw it reminds you not to get complacent!!

2. Stihl ms 170 30cc saw running 14” stock bar and chain. I use this saw after the 441 and start forming more detail cuts, I spend a lot of time with this saw size as it is very comfy. It gets a great deal of abuse and never lets me down.

3. Stihl ms 170 30cc saw running a 14” carving bar and chain. As you can see with the carving bar the nose is greatly reduced to the standard bar, this gives more manoeuvrability and allows me to get into smaller areas of a carving. This saw is used to create the finer detail to any carving write through to completion.

Chainsaws are extremely powerful and in the wrong hands very dangerous. I strongly recommend full training before operation.
