| So whats it like being a chainsaw carver, here is a quick insight. |
| 1. First the raw material has to be obtained. The majority of the trees are sourced from storm damage or construction or safety issues and failing this sawmills. |
| 2. The trees are then taken back to my workshop. Here the real work starts….and the maniac tendencies are let loose. I start by picking the timber to suit the carving, this is where my strange ability to visualise the carvings within the tree comes in to play. |
| 3. The first cuts are made with a high power 70cc saw running a 25” bar, these cuts are very basic and are mainly to bulk out and gain the basic shape. Then I move down to a 30cc saw running a 14” bar and finally a matching saw running a 14” carving bar for the detail and finishing. |
| 4. On completion of the carving it is then given between 6 and 8 coats of spar yacht varnish. |
